Our Story

A Light After Nine, born of founder Rachell M. Dumaspersonal journey through the heartbreak of nine pregnancy losses. Determined to turn her pain into purpose, Rachell created the nonprofit to provide families navigating infertility, pregnancy loss, and maternal trauma with the emotional, financial, and mental health resources they need

Through advocacy and partnerships, A Light After Nine works to amplify awareness, champion equitable maternal healthcare, and offer a compassionate community of support. We also partner with hospitals to provide maternal palliative care and care management services, ensuring families receive holistic, compassionate support from the bedside to the clinic and into their homes. Together, we’re bringing light, hope, and resilience to families facing their darkest moments.

Our Mission

Light After Nine is to provide compassionate support, resources, and hope to individuals and families navigating the profound challenges of pregnancy loss and infertility, especially in underserved communities. Through community, education, and empowerment, we aim to transform grief into resilience, fostering healing and connection for those who have endured unimaginable loss. We are also dedicated to advocating for a transformative approach to maternal health by incorporating palliative care practices, ensuring that families receive holistic, compassionate support at every stage of their journey.

We Are a Perinatal Safe Space!

As an official Perinatal Safe Spot under the National Perinatal Task Force, A Light After Nine is a trusted, inclusive space where families can feel supported, heard, and cared for during their maternal health journeys.

"Thank you for validating my experience, and even more so for validating unexpected NICU stays (full term pregnancy). Listening to you, I remembers it's even the small things we lost, how I'd planned to tell my family if it was boy or girl - I couldn't even bring myself to tell them he had been born as I didn't know in that moment if he would live or die."
